;The former WWE and UFC Champion, 34, had been widely tipped to be make a comeback over the weekend.
Reports said he was in Florida and had inked a new one-year WWE deal, with some anticipating an appearance at Wrestlemania.
But it was at the end of Raw when he made his appearance — to the delight of the crowd in Miami.
Raw had started with a strong victory promo by The Rock, who had beaten Cena at Mania.
And throughout the show much was made of how Cena would respond to him.
When he appeared in the last segment, he spoke in his usual fashion, preaching his virtues of hustle, loyalty and respect, and acknowledged his defeat.
Cena requested The Rock meet him in the ring so he could congratulate him.But instead — after a long pause — it was Lesnar who appeared in from of a rapturous crowd.
Brock took in the crowd reaction and slowly walked to the ring.
Cena applauded and extended a hand but Lesnar snatched him up and delivered his old finisher, leaving Cena laying.
The image Raw viewers were left with was a stricken Cena, a dominant Lesnar, and an ecstatic crowd.
WWE's Jim Ross was among the many who took to the internet to praise Brock's return.
He tweeted: "Why is Brock Lesnar back? I'd suggest to earn BIG money.
"He's done with UFC and is still young. He's a complex, supreme athlete. Interesting times."
Coincidentally, Lesnar made his first-ever appearance on WWE TV the night after Wrestlemania 18, almost exactly 10 years ago.
