Queens Park Rangers 2-1 Arsenal and Goals And Highlights

;Samba Diakite's first goal for Queens Park Rangers sealed all three points for the R's against Arsenal this afternoon.

QPR started the brighter of the two sides at Loftus Road, with their first chance falling to Bobby Zamora. Adel Taarabt crossed from deep but the England international was unable to keep his effort on target.

Taarabt went on to find the net as QPR turned their domination into a goal in the 22nd minute. The Moroccan international collected possession 35 yards from goal, before tricking his way past Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen and shooting past Wojciech Szczesny from distance.

However, the visiting Gunners drew themselves level in the 37th minute courtesy of England international Theo Walcott. Skipper Robin van Persie threaded a pass through to Walcott, who scored scored at the second attempt after his initial effort had struck the post.

Manchester United 2-0 West Bromwich Albion: Rooney fires United into pole position

;Manchester United hosted West Brom Sunday where Wayne Rooney’s double was enough to lift them over the Hawthornes and procure their place atop the English Premier League title for the rest of the season as local rival Manchester City floundered in a 1-0 loss to Swansea.

Though the final whistles for both matches may have sounded 225 miles apart, they both meant the same thing—Manchester United will repeat as the EPL champions.

It does not take an in-depth statistical analysis by a Harvard post-grad to know that the latter months of a footballing season in England belongs to the Red Devils. Sir Alex Ferguson has established a dynasty by recognizing the fundamental principal that a season is a marathon not a sprint, and who finished first is not decided out of the starting blocks, but down the home stretch. Manchester United bounced back from their midweek defeat at the hands of Athletic Bilbao by beating West Brom thanks to two-goal hero Wayne Rooney.

The champions made three changes from the side beaten in the Europa League on Thursday night with Rio Ferdinand, Paul Scholes and Michael Carrick all making the starting lineup.

The surprise inclusion came on the bench where Paul Pogba was named among the subs after recently turning down a contract extension.

It seems, however, that the promising French midfielder has made a U-turn and is set to stay with the Manchester club. A fairly one-sided affair was dominated by the reigning champions, who should have won by a bigger margin if not for their profligacy in front of goal.

A moment of opportunism and a coolly taken penalty from Wayne Rooney secured all three points for the Red Devils, as the visitors were thwarted by David de Gea on the few occasions they managed to break out of their own half.

Manchester United vs Athletic Bilbao 8/3/12 2-3

;Football: Not even a world class goalkeeping display from David de Gea could prevent Manchester United losing their second consecutive home game in this year's Europa League as Sir Alex Ferguson's men went down to La Liga side Athletic Bilbao.

A first-half strike from Wayne Rooney was cancelled out by Fernando Llorente on the stroke of half-time.

However the away side, who were excellent throughout, refused to settle for a draw and second-half goals from Oscar de Marcos and Iker Muniain left the Old Trafford crowd stunned before Rooney scored what could be a hugely significant penalty in the dying embers of the game.

But it was de Gea, facing Spanish opposition for the first time since his £18m move from Athletico Madrid in the summer, who made a number of outstanding saves to keep the away side at bay as consistently poor defending in Europe this season left United with a mountain to climb in the return leg next week. Manchester United face an uphill battle to reach the Europa League quarter-finals after a shock first-leg defeat by a fearless Athletic Bilbao side.

Wayne Rooney smashed United ahead from close range before Fernando Llorente's header drew the visitors level.

But the cavalier Spaniards refused to settle for a draw as United failed to win yet another European home game.

The hosts were stunned by second-half goals from Oscar de Marcos and Iker Muniain before a late Rooney penalty.

Whitney Houston Will; Singer Leaves Everything To Bobbi Kristina

Barcelona vs Bayer Leverkusen 7-1 Champions League Highlights 2012

;Lionel Messi at his breathtaking best ripped Bayer Leverkusen apart with a record five-goal Champions League and into the quarter-finals 7-1 on the night and 10-2 on aggregate.

The Argentinian world player of the year became the first player to score five in a Champions League match, and the first in the competition since Soren Lerby did so for Ajax in a 1979 European Cup tie against Omonia Nicosia, in one of the most comprehensive drubbings in the competition's history. The Argentine has now scored 53 goals in 49 games for club and country this season, moving him to within seven goals of becoming the club's record scorer.

Cesar Rodriguez struck 235 times during a 13-year stint at the Nou Camp but Messi looks set to eclipse that before his 25th birthday.

At times he appeared to be playing on an entirely different level as he brought his

phenomenal tally up to 228 goals in 311 appearances - which includes 186 in his last 201 games - and condemned the Germans to a 10-2 aggregate defeat.

Knicks Vs. Mavericks: Dallas Overcomes New York Comeback, Dismal Shooting

;Jason Kidd whined about the officiating Monday night after a loss to the Thunder and then decided to take matters into his own hands a night later. He smacked Jeremy Lin to the American Airlines Center court with a shot to the head, making you wonder if Gregg Williams had put a bounty on the Knicks’ playmaker.

Lin has been getting all the calls since he started his incredible run, but somehow the refs didn’t assess the Mavs a flagrant foul on the play.

This was all during another loss for the Knicks, the fifth in their last eight games, and the way the game went and the way Lin took a beating from Kidd on that one play, you know that Linsanity is over. Officially. Not even the best thing to happen to the Knicks at point guard since Mark Jackson can stop the losing now.Mavericks vs Knicks: How will Jeremy Lin accept his new role, backup?

Will Jeremy Lin resurrect himself back to the spotlight? The conversation in the past three days after Knicks losing to Celtics is the future of Lin as the starter of the team. Backing him up in the pointguard position is a well-proven player Baron Davis. Anytime soon the Knicks expected Lin to be relegated into a backup role.Jeremy Lin has become a household name during the past month, but nothing has

been handed to the current New York Knicks point guard and former Harvard Crimson star during his brief career professional basketball career. In fact, if it wasn't for the opportunity Dallas Mavericks general manager gave Lin at the 2010 Vegas Summer League, the Taiwanese-American isn't sure what might have happened to his NBA career.

Arsenal 3-0 AC Milan (Agg 3-4): Gunners crash out of Champions League

;

Football: So near yet so far. Arsenal gave AC Milan the fright of the lives but ultimately fell just short in their bid to overhaul a four-goal deficit from the first leg and book their passage to the Champions League quarter-finals.

Italian minds must have been filled with thoughts of the 2005 final defeat to Liverpool and a similar capitulation to Deportivo la Coruna in 2003-4 when the Londoners surged to a three-goal half-time lead.

Arsene Wenger had called on his side to believe in the impossible before kick-off and his charges responded in kind, with strikes from Laurent Koscielny and Tomas Rosicky, and a Robin van Persie penalty, sending Arsenal in three-up at the interval. Midway through the second half here, it seemed as if the impossible was going to happen. With Arsenal 3-0 up, only a goal behind on aggregate, Gervinho burst into the Milan area and fired low at goal.

Christian Abbiati saved, but the ball spun off his body and landed at the feet of Robin van Persie. A yard out, it was what Arsenal fans had prayed for: their man in a position to keep the dream alive. Hope seemed about to transform into astonishing reality. Arsenal scored three first-half goals but could not complete an epic comeback against AC Milan, who held on to reach the Champions League quarter-finals.

Milan, leading 4-0 from the first leg, were rocked when Laurent Koscielny headed home a corner and a mistake let Tomas Rosicky slot in Arsenal's second.

Robin van Persie's penalty increased the Gunners' momentum before the break. What a valiant attempt from Arsenal to overturn a 4-0 first leg deficit against AC Milan. The Gunners were just one goal short of making things very interesting.

Unlike 2004, when Milan coughed up a 4-1 first leg lead against Deportivo La Coruña, or the misery of the 2005 UEFA Champions League, this time Milan coughed up a big lead but it didn't cost them.

Birmingham City 0-2 Chelsea Mata and Meireles Goals

;
really wish Goushi was here or someone else posted match threads. I don't want to anymore but oh well.

We won and we didn't need the old guard to do win for us. If AVB had put out this line up he would have been skewered. Mata and Meireles scored the goals with Mata missing a penalty...again.
Ashley Cole has not recovered from an ankle injury so is not involved but two weeks after undergoing arthroscopic surgery, John Terry is on the bench.

Frank Lampard is also among the subs with Raul Meireles returning to the side. John Mikel Obi also rejoins the midfield and there are two changes up front with Fernando Torres and Salomon Kalou starting.

Nightly Notable: Deron Williams Drops 57

;Deron Williams scores career high 57 points VS Charlotte Bobcats (interview after the game)
New Jersey Nets 104-101 Charlotte Bobcats
Deron Williams drops a career high 57 points VS Charlotte BobcatsDo not get between Deron Williams and his golf game.

With the New Jersey Nets promised a day off by Coach Avery Johnson in exchange for a victory over the Charlotte Bobcats, Williams scored 57 points — 40 in the second half — on 16-of-29 shooting from the field and 21-of-21 shooting from the free-throw line. All of that came in 38 minutes of play and the Nets got past the Bobcats 104-101.

Deron Williams dropped 57 points in the Nets' win over the Bobcats. In other action, the Nuggets handed the Spurs a rare home loss, and the Bulls beat the Sixers.

Mar 5, 2012 - Deron Williams scored a team record 57 points as the New Jersey Nets waltzed into Charlotte and beat the juggernaut Bobcats 104-101 on Sunday. Williams was 16-for-29 from the floor, 4-for-11 on three-pointers and 21-for-21 from the line. He also managed seven assists, meaning that he figured in at least 68 percent of New Jersey's points
Deron Williams scored 57 points on just 29 shots against the Bobcats Sunday— he hit 16 of his shots and was 21-for-21 from the free throw line. You can see all of them above. Well, not the free throws, but everything else.

It was an impressive performance — it is more points than any player has scored in a game this season. It is better than the career high for LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Paul, pretty much any player in the NBA not named Kobe Bryant. It’s more than any Net player has ever scored.

It happened because the Bobcats decided not to trap, not to double Williams off the pick-and-roll. Note to the team’s coming up on the Nets schedule — they don’t have a lot of other guys who can beat you. Take the ball out of Williams hands. Or else this can happen to you.

Rajon Rondo, Celtics Outlast Jeremy Lin, Knicks In OT, 115-111

;Rajon Rondo had his second triple-double in three games, spoiling Harvard grad Jeremy Lin's return to Boston on Sunday and leading the Boston Celtics to a 115-111 overtime victory over the New York Knicks.

Rondo had 18 points, 20 assists and a career-high 17 rebounds, and Paul Pierce scored 34 – including a 3-pointer with 4.9 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime. Kevin Garnett scored 18 with 10 rebounds, and Ray Allen gave the Celtics the lead for good with a 3-pointer to make it 108-105, then followed it with a fast-break layup – both on assists from Rondo.LeBron James and Kobe Bryant had to wait. Paul Pierce ensured free Knicks vs. Celtics basketball on Sunday afternoon, scoring Boston's last seven points in regulation, including a contested three-pointer with 4.9 seconds left that tied the game at 103.
Jeremy Lin and Carmelo Anthony, quiet much of the game, came up big at the end of regulation for New York. Lin scored five points in 27 seconds to cut Boston's lead to one with 2:07 left. He finished with 14 points, but six turnovers.
In overtime, Rajon Rondo took control of the Celtics and the game, and finished with a freaking absurd line: 18 points, 20 assists, 17 rebounds. How rare is that?
Rajon Rondo had his second triple-double in three games, finishing with 18 points, 20 assists and a career-high 17 rebounds, and the Celtics ruined Harvard grad Jeremy Lin's return to Boston with a 115-111 victory over the New York Knicks on Sunday.

Rondo played a part in every Celtics point in overtime, collecting five points, five rebounds and two assists in the extra period.

As an aside, I know it is probably too late in his career to start a nickname for Rondo (and his name is unique enough to stand on its own) but wouldn't Spiderman be an interesting one? I mean, he's "amazing" right? The blank face he plays with is almost like a mask (right down to the expressionless mouth). He does things on the court that defy physics, including a fake around the back pass where the ball might as well be stuck to his huge hands (like with a web?). I don't know, maybe it sounds lame, but I think he could do worse.

The Real Housewives Of Disney: 'SNL' Pitches A New Bravo Series (VIDEO)

;Last night's Saturday Night Live took us past happily ever after and into the not-so-magical realm of sham marriages, bankruptcy, and alcoholism, all with a confessional camera. It's as filled with cat fights and eye-rolling as you'd expect, but with some inspired moments. Dwarven high-fives for all!Linday Lohan's return to Saturday Night Live proved not only a ratings boon for the late-night comedy series but also a night of memorable sketches.

The much-publicized comeback gig -- Lohan's fourth as host -- was one of the highest-rated episodes of the season, second only to Charles Barkley's January episode, which followed the NFL playoffs.

A highlight of the episode, which featured a cameo by Jimmy Fallon and plenty of self-deprecating humor, was a pre-recorded fake commercial for Bravo's newest edition of the Real Housewives franchise: Real Housewives of Disney. Starring Rapunzel (Lohan), Snow White (Vanessa Bayer), Belle (Abby Elliott), Jasmine (Nasim Pedrad) and a boozy Cinderella (Kristen Wiig), the five Disney Princesses share secrets and trade catty barbs.Plot: It’s the quintessential childhood fantasy – turned into a nightmare. The Disney princesses get a reality-TV makeover, and the ideals of beauty and wealth come crashing down in a heap of cattiness and booze. Belle, Jasmine, Ariel and others learn the hard way that even fairy tales have their real-world drama. Lindsay Lohan crafts a praiseworthy Rapunzel, in a performance that harks back to Mean Girls, but Taran Killam’s flamboyant Prince Charming is the shining star.Lindsay Lohan's fourth time hosting "Saturday Night Live" brought forth some memorable sketches, but perhaps none more so than "The Real Housewives of Disney."

Sure, thanks to Bravo we all know what the Real Housewives of New York, Atlanta and

Beverly Hills are like (in the words of Tina Fey, "a fire in a wax museum"), but what about our favorite fictional women of privilege? What are their dinner parties and fundraisers and balls-to-the-wall brawls like? Finally, our questions are answered.

Inter Milan Vs Catania (2-2) (Footy Sunday Highlights)

;
Inter Milan battled back from two goals down at home to Catania to salvage a 2-2 draw and ensure they did not suffer a sixth straight defeat in all competitions. (05:20) March 4, 2012-Inter Milan came back from two goals down to draw 2-2 at home to Catania in Serie A on Sunday and end its five-game losing run.

Alejandro Gomez and Mariano Izco gave Catania a solid halftime lead as Inter was roundly booed throughout the first period.

The game changed in less than 10 second-half minutes, however, as Diego Forlan helped Inter hit back with the team's first goal in six games before Diego Milito leveled.

Inter is still winless in its past nine games, but the result could give coach Claudio Ranieri a stay of execution as he seeks to avoid becoming the club's second managerial casualty of the campaign.

Inter is a point behind sixth-place Roma, which lost 2-1 in a heated derby match against Lazio with both sides reduced to 10 men.

"It was an important response,'' Ranieri said. "Finally we got a goal and now we have to continue to fight, but this is a squad that never gives up. We looked at each other in the dressing room, it was a really troublesome moment, but these champions knew how to react.

"We are united and we have to get out of this situation all together, as usual. Unfortunately there still remains the problem that at the first scare we seem less determined. Tonight we started well, but we went behind on the first counterattack and then we became scared and got in difficulty.''

Fulham 5-0 Wolves: Premier League Highlights (Video)

;
In the words of the Fulham faithful, who needs Zamora when they've got The Pog? Pavel Pogrebnyak, their January deadline-day replacement for the QPR striker, probably needs the nickname. But as Wolverhampton Wanderers will attest, he is a handful as well as a mouthful.

The Russia striker, who is on a short-term contract from Stuttgart until the end of the season, when he becomes a free agent, reinforced the impression that he is made to measure for the Premier League. Having scored vital goals in his first two games – the wins over Stoke and Queens Park Rangers – he plundered a hat-trick that sank Wolves and managed to emboss his fine performance of power and finesse. It has been difficult to reconcile his toils at Stuttgart. * Premiership
Fulham won 5-0 after a relentless attacking display which sent a pitiful Wolves side crashing down into the relegation zone.

Wolves had not won at Craven Cottage since 1967, and had only managed a single goal in their last four visits. They did absolutely nothing to show they had any ambition to improve those statistics with a naive defensive performance in the face of a fluid, attacking Fulham side.

The Cottagers set the scene for an afternoon of dominance with early efforts from Clint Dempsey and John Arne Riise, but they had to wait until the 36th minute before finding the back of the net. It was new signing Pavel Pogrebnyak who made the breakthrough, directing a thumping diving header past Wayne Hennessey from a corner, and the striker doubled Fulham's lead moments after with a neat finish from an Andy Johnson pass after a lightning quick counter-attacking move.

Real Madrid 5-0 Espanyol: La Liga Highlights (Video)

;
Real Madrid brushed aside Espanyol 5-0 on Sunday to march on toward its first Spanish league title in four seasons with its 10th consecutive win.

Madrid dominated throughout, barely breaking a sweat in a commanding victory that restored its 10-point lead over defending champion Barcelona.

Cristiano Ronaldo took advantage of a defensive error by Espanyol to open the scoring with his league-leading 30th goal.

Germany midfielder Sami Khedira added a goal before halftime. Gonzalo Higuain then scored twice and Kaka also found the net in the second half to seal Madrid's 12th win in 13 league games at Santiago Bernabeu stadium this season.Real Madrid have scored 85 goals in 24 league games thanks to the five netted against Espanyol tonight, which also gave them a tenth straight victory in the championship. The Whites were superior throughout the encounter and thrilled their fans with an electrifying shower of goals at the Bernabeu.

Carvalho came on for the suspended Pepe and Real Madrid didn't have such an intense start to the match as usual, but Espanyol seemed weary and hardly managed to give two consecutive passes. Mourinho's men completely controlled the match and soon started to have chances. The first was a Ronaldo shot that grazed one of the posts (11'), followed by one by Kaka inside the box that was cleared by goalkeeper Casilla (19').Real Madrid made light work of Espanyol on Sunday evening as it stormed to a 5-0 victory at the Santiago Bernabeu to claim its 10 consecutive Liga victory, and open up a 10-point lead over rival Barcelona once again.

The league leader grabbed the first goal of the game on 23 minutes when Cristiano Ronaldo finished off a clever move before Sami Khedira doubled Madrid's goal tally before the break.

Just after the interval Higuain struck from close range before Kaka scored a deserved goal. Higuain put the icing on the cake with 12 minutes to go for the home side, which appears odds on to win their first Liga title since 2008.

Tottenham 1-3 Manchester United: Two stunning Young strikes seal crucial win

;
Football: It all points to an April 30 showdown it seems. Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United continue to match their city rivals stride for stride as the two clubs remain virtually inseparable at the top of the league.

United impressively saw off Tottenham with a controlled performance at White Hart Lane. The victory ensures that they stay just two points off Manchester City. The two play each other at the end of next month in a crucial clash at Eastlands that will surely have a major bearing on who will win the title race. An uneventful first half was dominated by a disallowed Spurs goal, Emmanuel Adebayor controversially judged to have handled prior to finding the net, before Wayne Rooney headed home from a corner moments before the whistle.

Despite not being at the top of their game, United pushed clear after the interval, Ashley Young catching the eye first with a well-taken volley from a tough angle and then a delightful finish from outside the area to double his tally. Jermain Defoe netted a late consolation having capitalised upon a loose pass.

Newcastle 1-1 Sunderland: Ameobi rescues point for Magpies with injury time equaliser

;A Nicklas Bendtner penalty gave Sunderland the lead but a late equaliser from Shola Ameobi spared the hosts blushes after Stephane Sessegnon was sent off and Demba Ba missed a late penalty.

Newcastle named the same eleven that drew with Wolves with Sengalese strikers Demba Ba and Papiss Cisse leading the line for the Geordies.

Sunderland's only change from their 4-0 defeat at West Brom was Danish international striker Nicklas Bendtner coming in, meaning Jack Colback had to settle for a place on the bench.

The precedent for how the game would play out was immediately set by Sunderland’s Lee Cattermole who was booked inside the first minute for a bad lunge on Cheik Tiote.Derby specialist Shola Ameobi was Newcastle's hero once again as he spared Demba Ba's blushes with an injury-time equaliser against 10-man Sunderland.

The substitute levelled at the death after Ba had seen an 83rd-minute penalty saved by Simon Mignolet.

Nicklas Bendtner had given the visitors a 24th-minute lead by converting a controversial penalty, but the visitors managed to hang on until the dying seconds despite having Stephane Sessegnon sent off, while Black Cats captain Lee Cattermole was also dismissed after the final whistle for arguing with referee Mike Dean.

Newcastle VS Sunderland PENALTY Bendtner

;58mins: RED CARD! Sessegnon is ordered off. The forward takes a swing at Tiote off the ball, making contact with his forearm in the chin/chest area.

53mins: A flurry of Newcastle corners fail to penetrate the Sunderland defence. The visitors need to get their foot on the ball.

51mins: Gardner is the seventh player to be booked after a late challenge on Coloccini.

49mins: Incidentally, United's goalkeeping coach Andy Woodman has been barred from the dugout for the second period after a scuffle in the tunnel.

8mins: Very bright start from the home side and Ba has been at the forefront. Cracking turn on the box but he shoots wide.

46mins: Immediately the Frenchman wins a corner which is cleared but crossed back into Ba who heads narrowly wide.

1.07pm: The second half is underway. Hatem Ben Arfa replaces Davide Santon for Newcastle.

12.58pm: There have of course been several bad challenges but as far as shots on goal are concerned, we have been less than entertained.

12.51pm: The scoreline reflects the first half which in truth has been below par. Newcastle with work to do in the second 45 minutes.

Polish Trains Crashed Producing a Deadly Train Derailment

;Two trains have collided in southern Poland, leaving six people dead, local officials say, and 50 hurt.

The accident occurred on Saturday evening on the Warsaw-Krakow mainline at the small town of Szczekociny, according to Polish TV.

Two express trains, one of which was on the wrong track, collided head-on, a senior railway official said.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk is on his way to the site of the crash, along with three other cabinet ministers.

"This appears to be one of the most serious railway accidents in recent years," Transport Minister Slawomir Nowak told the TVN24 news channel.

"There are fatalities, there are many injured people," he said, as he travelled to the scene with Prime Minister Tusk.

Some passengers remain trapped in the wreckage, police say. Helicopter ambulances from Warsaw and Wroclaw are helping to take the injured to hospitals.
Three coaches are reported to be especially damaged, and the rescue operation is focusing on finding passengers there.

The three coaches were "completely destroyed - like a concertina", one eyewitness told the Gazeta Wyborcza newspaper.

Another passenger estimated that his train was travelling about 120km/h (75 mph), when it started braking very sharply.

;Former TV idol star Kirk Cameron has angered the gay community by making outrageously homophobic comments on CNN.

The Growing Pains actor told Piers Morgan that he does not support gay marriage and believes homosexuality is wrong.

Liverpool nearly pay dearly for that miss as Arsenal go up the field and nearly score themselves through Walcott. The Red are grateful to the reactions of Reina that they aren't behind as Walcott's effort rebounded off two defenders before the keeper could gather the ball.

How Liverpool aren't leading in this game is anyone's guess as they've just spurned yet another great chance to take the lead. The Reds had a good spell of possession in the Arsenal half and Adam slid a lovely reverse pass to Kuyt to set up a crossing opportunity. The Dutchman delivered a perfect ball in, beating the Gunners defence and all Martin Kelly had to do was tap the ball in to score but he fluffed his opportunity missing his kick.

Danger for Liverpool as Arsenal attack through Tomas Rosicky who puts the ball into a threatening area across the face of goal and Jamie Carragher has to be at his best to glance the ball away from danger as Van Persie and Benayoun were lurking.
