China swimmer Ye Shiwen 'clean', says BOA boss Moynihan

;Lord Colin Moynihan said Ye, 16, had passed drug tests, was "clean" and deserved recognition for her talent.

Ye smashed her personal best by at least five seconds in the 400m Medley.

Senior US coach John Leonard said her performance was disturbing and hinted that doping could have been involved.

Mr Leonard, executive director of the World Swimming Coaches Association, said the performance reminded him of the East German women swimmers in the 1980s, who were doping on a systematic basis.

"History in our sport will tell you that every time we see something, and I will put quotation marks around this, unbelievable, history shows us that it turns out later on there was doping involved," he told the UK's Guardian newspaper.

But Ye, who will compete later in the 200m Medley final, has strongly defended herself and denied that she would ever use banned substances.

China's anti-doping chief has said that Chinese athletes have undergone nearly 100 drugs tests since arriving in London, and that not a single Chinese athlete had tested positive.

Former swimmers, other Olympic champions and experts have all given their support to Ye.

Lord Moynihan told a news conference that the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) was "on top of the game".

"She's been through Wada's programme and she's clean. That's the end of the story. Ye Shiwen deserves recognition for her talent," he said.

Former British Olympic champion Adrian Moorhouse said the rumours appeared to be a case of sour grapes.

15-year-old Lithuanian teenager Ruta Meilutyte bags historic gold

;London: Lithuanian teenager Ruta Meilutyte stole the pool headlines at the London Olympics Monday as she gave her country the first Olympic swimming gold in the women's 100 metres breaststroke.
On her international debut, the 15-year-old Meilutyte clocked 1:05.47 to touch the wall first, Xinhua reported.
American Rebecca Soni, silver medallist at Beijing Games, chased her to finish second in 1:05.55. The bronze medal went to Japan's Satomi Suzuki who posted 1:06.46I can't believe it. It's too much for me," said Meilutyte in tears.
"It was hard and difficult. At the moment I can't speak too much. But it means a lot to me and I'm so proud," said Meilutyte, who trains in Plymouth, Britain.
She easily seized the lead after diving off the block, and never looked back to touch the end. A capacity of Lithuanian athletes, coaches and volunteers roared on the tribune for her, sharing with her the historic success.
Soni was a little disappointed for a silver but said she learned something along the way.
It is the first-ever Olympic medal for Lithuania. Meilutyte is the sole female swimmer of her country in London together with other three male swimmers in the squad.
A day before, the teenager blazed set an European record of 1:05.21 in the women's 100 metres breaststroke semifinal as the fastest qualifier, also her personal best

London 2012: Missy Franklin and Ye Shiwen steal show in pool: Kelly

;Seventeen-year-old American Missy Franklin’s vertiginous physique is anchored by a pair of seal flippers — size 13 feet. It takes her so long to get from heel to toe, she rolls along as if she’s on board a ship in heavy water.

Chinese 16-year-old Ye Shiwen was pointed toward the pool as a 9-year-old when her schoolteacher noticed the size of her hands. In China, promising youth are funneled into sports programs when unusual physical characteristics are remarked.

Abnormally large paws. That’s the end of the similarities between the two emerging pool stars of London 2012, both gold medallists looking for more.

Franklin, an endearingly gawky giantess, belongs to that long line of Canadian fish tales — “The one who got away.” She was born in California and raised in Colorado, but both of her parents are Canadian. Her father Dick was drafted by the Argos.

As a 12-year-old, Franklin’s parents asked her to pick the country she would compete for. Her mother, D.A., pushed for the easier road in Canada. Franklin instead chose what she knew.

Swimming Canada played no role in this decision. At the time, they didn’t realize Franklin had Canadian roots. In the last two years, according to Swimming Canada boss Pierre Lafontaine, they’ve expanded their efforts to recruit the kids of expats living in the U.S. One of them — Colorado freestyler Brent Worsley — is competing in the maple leaf here.

He didn't. In fact, he didn't come all that close. And now we must wait until Monday – for the heats of the 200-meter butterfly – to begin to answer the question no one was asking before these Games began.

What happened to Michael Phelps?

RECOMMENDED: 5 swimmers to watch

From start to finish, the 400-meter individual medley was Lochte's race. He could have swum with the gold medal already around his neck, and he still would have finished first. By a lot. Billed as a showdown between two of the greatest swimmers ever, Lochte swam against only invisible competition – the golden world-record line on TV that just beat him to the finish.

Slightly ahead of the field after 100 meters of freestyle, Lochte needed rearview mirrors to see it after the backstroke and breaststroke. By the time he finished, the swimmer in second place was three body-lengths behind.

Sun Yang and Ye Shiwen give China 2 golds and a world record on opening night of swimming

;Sun Yang propped himself up on the lane rope, posed for the cameras and let out a big roar as he pounded his fists into the water.

It was the start of a big night for a Chinese swimming team that is developing into a major power.

Shortly after Sun won the 400-meter freestyle by a large margin over defending champion Park Tae-hwan, 16-year-old teammate Ye Shiwen announced her arrival on swimming's greatest stage with a world record in the grueling 400 individual medley.

Ye celebrated with teammate Li Xuanxu in the next lane, who took bronze.

Sun had already made himself known by taking down Grant Hackett's 11-year-old world record in the marathon-like 1,500 free before a home crowd at last year's world championships in Shanghai, but he had never won an Olympic medal.

"I was so eager and impatient to go on the podium," said Sun, shedding tears after cooling down from his victory celebration. "Today if I cry it's really because I worked hard for one year, or even more. I get up very early and worked very hard. This is a reward for me and my coach, who is not well. After I return he will go through surgery. My parents came. They are really great parents, they gave me so much."

Sun trains under Hackett's former coach Denis Cotterell.

Park was temporarily disqualified for a false start in morning heats, but was then reinstated following an appeal.

"With him in the final I think this is a good ac

Ernie Els wins The Open 2012 as Adam Scott collapses

;Poor, poor Adam Scott. The Australian has joined Jean Van de Velde and, dare we whisper it, Scott’s hero Greg Norman, as the kings of golfing calamity. As natural as it was to feel deep joy for Els, the veteran who many had give up on after 10 barren years, it was easier to feel intense sympathy for Scott.
With four holes to go he was four ahead and 1-50 with the bookies. The inscriber was in full scrape. Four bogeys later, Scott was in total and merciless ignominy. The pain was apparent when he walked off the green, but he quickly composed himself and displayed an upper-lip so tight he would have made an old officer proud. No tears, just cheers for Els. But this will hurt when it sinks in. It simply has to.
As a teenager he had sat in his Queensland home in floods of tears as he watched Norman, his inspiration, concede a six-shot lead to Nick Faldo at the 1996 Masters. On Sunday Norman was due to play golf in Scotland in preparation for this week’s Senior Open at Turnberry. He cancelled his plans.

Boy wonder Prince Royce also debuted his new song, Close To You, “flying” over a fan pit.

Rick Ross - 3 Kings (Feat. Jay-Z & Dr. Dre) [Full Song]

;Rick Ross, Dr. Dre and Jay-Z weren't born heirs to the hip-hop throne, but on Rozay's newest single, "3 Kings" the trio most definitely spit the most regal of raps.

Rozay billed it as the "biggest collaboration in hip-hop," and on Thursday (July 19), New York DJ Funkmaster Flex got the green light to premiere the highly anticipated track. From the top of the dusty-and-soulful Jake One instrumental, Dr. Dre brands "3 Kings" as "classic hip-hop.Though it's hard to imagine a time when the D-R-E wasn't on top, the Chronic producer reminds listeners of his wonder years when he opens the track spitting, "He started out mopping floors, but now he's front row at the awards." Still, Dre's recounting of his humble beginnings only helps to intensify the magnitude of his present when he urges fans, "You should listen to this beat through my headphones."

There is no hook or catchy chorus, just a bottom-heavy instrumental breakdown that leads into Ross' guts and glory. "I came a long way from the weed game/ Twenty-stack seats at the Heat game," he rhymes, sending a nod to the 2012 NBA champions.

The entire song stands as a testament to Ross' growth. While the Maybach Music Bawse was laying the groundwork for his recent rap empire with his 2006 debut, Port of Miami, and its follow-up, Trilla, few believed the husky-voiced MC would grow to his current stature. Back then, placing both Dr. Dre and Jay-Z on a single track seemed improbable for Ross, and having the gall to name the track "3 Kings" would have been ludicrous. Now, the notion isn't farfetched by any means, seeing as how the Teflon Don has emerged as one of the game's biggest draws and business minds, helping build the careers of young artists like Meek Mill

Amazulu 0-1 Manchester United

;Manchester United defeated Amazulu 1-0 at the Moses Madiba Stadium on Wednesday night in a pre-season friendly in honour of Nelson Mandela's 94th birthday.

United started the stronger of the two sides and were soon in front after 20 minutes when Federico Macheda buried his shot into the bottom corner of the net.

AmaZulu settled after the goal and looked to get back into the tie although it was the English giants who looked the most threatening from the off.

Macheda had a chance as early as the first minute as he forced Tapuwa Kapini into a low save and with Javier Hernandez lurking AmaZulu were lucky to survive the scare.

Marc van Heerden then did well to get back to cut out another United attack that released Jesse Lingard down the right hand side.

Van Heerden was called into action again moments later as he slid in to clear the ball as Macheda was just about to shoot.

Team USA Vs. Brazil Basketball

;Team USA picked up another double-digit win in their second exhibition game in advance of the 2012 London Olympic Games. But unlike the blow out win against the Dominican Republic in Las Vegas, Coach K's team faced a much tougher test on Monday night at Verizon Center in downtown Washington, DC. USA clinched an 80-69 win over Brazil but it certainly wasn't always pretty.

Brazil has one of the better frontcourts in international basketball with Nene, Tiago Splitter, and Anderson Varejao all creating havoc in the paint. Team USA started slowly, with a combination of missed shots and turnovers leading to a double-digit deficit in the first quarter.

USA would work their way back into it and hold a lead for the entire second half, but the Brazilians did not go quietly -- at one point, going on an 8-2 run to cut things to six with under six minutes to play. But there was simply too much talent playing for the gold-medal favorites, and Miami's LeBron James dominated when called upon. James led all scorers with 30 points while also grabbing six rebounds. Kevin Durant, who busted out against the DR in the first exhibition game, added 11 points.

HIGHLIGHTS: Portland Timbers vs. LA Galaxy

;At JELD-WEN Field on Saturday night defense was optional, but fun was guaranteed. The Portland Timbers and LA Galaxy played an absolutely thrilling match and combined for eight goals, sometimes with the help of poor defense, in front of a vocal and enthusiastic Timbers crowd. That crowd didn't leave happy, though. That is due in large part to the Designated Player trio of David Beckham, Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane, who played exceptionally and led the Galaxy to a 5-3 win in hostile territory.

The Timbers were actually the ones who got off to a dream start. Kalif Alhassan was given far too much time on the right to cross and he found Kris Boyd at the near post. The Scot finished coolly and just three minutes into the match the home team was in front.

But LA stormed back in a big way with four goals in nine minutes. First, Beckham lined up a shot from 30 yards and hit an absolute rocket into the upper corner for a stunning equalizer. He followed that up with a brilliant free kick from 20 yards that got over the wall and just squeezed inside the post for his second great goal and the Galaxy lead.

The Galaxy still weren't done. Kosuke Kimura got caught napping and ended up behind Michael Stephens. Kimura then ran through Stephens, giving away the penalty that Donovan would convert to make it 3-1. Keane then ended the Galaxy's furious rally after Donovan raced down the right and delivered a perfect cross that the Irishman just had to tap in for the three-goal lead.

Amazingly, all of that craziness came before 30 minutes had even passed. Kimura did his best to make up for giving away the penalty when he was able to knock home a rebound given away by Josh Saunders, who couldn't hold a Boyd free kick. The Timbers were still down 4-2, but that didn't look insurmountable at halftime.

David Haye vs. Dereck Chisora Results: Haye Defeats Chisora Via 5th-Round KO

;Looking at this fight, it is amazing how much bad blood can come out of just one incident that took place five months ago. In case you forgot, Chisora and Haye got involved in a brawl at a press conference following Chisora's loss to Vitali Klitschko.

That one incident led to Haye coming out of his short-lived retirement. Despite not having the kind of long, drawn-out build that some of the best matches in boxing history have had, this was one of the most anticipated fights of the year.

What Is The Bigger Story?
David Haye Winning
Dereck Chisora Losing
Submit Vote vote to see results
Haye wanted to destroy Chisora. Chisora wanted to destroy Haye. Ultimately, Haye was able to prevail to win both championships.

For Haye, this was a great moment. Following his loss to Wladimir Klitschko last July, no one knew what to expect from Haye in this fight. Granted he did not have the longest layoff between fights, but you still wonder how much ring rust he is going to have.

At just 31 years old, Haye is still very much in his prime, so it's not like he had a lot of work to do to find himself.

Chisora, on the other hand, is going to have to figure out where his career is taking him. He has now lost four of his last five fights. At 28, there is time for him to turn things around and climb back up the heavyweight rankings.

Amir Khan v Danny Garcia - round-by-round coverage of the big fight

;Khan goes into this bout with a string of impressive performances under his belt. Take a look back at some of his most notable bouts in this superb video, produced by HBOAmir Khan is good mates with David Haye, but that didn't stop him making the point that his bout against Danny Garcia tonight is a bigger contest than the one we witnessed earlier this evening at Upton Park.

Speaking to BBC Radio Five Live earlier this week, Khan explained "People know the difference, especially boxing fans, they know my fight is a lot bigger because there's two world titles on the line.

"David is a good friend of mine but the fight is not as big a fight. There are no world titles on the line and I don't think Chisora is a top-10 (fighter) in the world.

"The guy I'm fighting, Danny Garcia, is a top-10 in the world so it makes it more fun to watch for the fans."

Sage Stallone The Eldest Son of Sylvester Stallone Found Dead

;age Moonblood Stallone, the 36-year-old son of Sylvester Stallone who starred alongside his father in "Rocky V," was found dead in his Hollywood apartment on Friday. The New York Post confirmed his passing with his attorney George Braunstein. Sources tell The Post that he likely died of an overdose of pills, and that a representative of the LAPD stated, "There is no suspicion of foul play or criminal activity."

Sage Stallone was Sylvester Stallone's eldest son from his first marriage to Sasha Czack (they divorced in 1985). Sage is survived by his brother Seargeoh, and his three half-sisters Sophia, Sistine, and Scarlet.

Sage made his film debut playing Robert Balboa, Rocky's son, in 1990's "Rocky V" when he was 14 years old. The film was both a critical and financial disappointment, with Sylvester Stallone telling The Sun in 2010 that the reason he made the sequel was "I'm greedy — what can I tell you... It was a mistake because the audience didn't want to see the downside of the character. They wanted him to remain on top."

Sage also appeared with his father in 1996's "Daylight," but that year also saw him give up acting to be one of the co-founders of Grindhouse Releasing. Along with his partner, Oscar-winning film editor Bob Murawski, Sage Stallone's company restored and re-released forgotten exploitation films from the 1970s and '80s. Grindhouse Releasing partnered with Quentin Tarantino to bring Lucio Fulci's horror film "The Beyond" to screens in 2010.

Eric LeGrand Wins Jimmy V Perseverance

;Eric LeGrand is a guy that can inspire the world. The former player at Rutgers was paralyzed from the neck down during a football game. However, he is slowly regaining mobility and many believe he will walk again. He was on hand at the ESPYS and won the Jimmy V Perseverance Award and gave a great speech.

If you do not find Eric LeGrand inspiring, there is something wrong. The kid is a tremendous role model for anyone who wants to overcome something. He continually makes progress in his fight and has never had a bad word to say about it. He just does whatever he can to regain his abilities.

I mean, he took time give shout outs to the people that he knows that never had visitors. How many people would think to do that? It makes the problems that the rest of us face seem so small.

I personally believe that LeGrand will walk again. He is that determined and he is one of the hardest working people out there. He knows how hard he has to fight and I believe that he is going to get there. It might take him years, but do not count out LeGrand. He is going to make a recovery beyond what people will expect.

I am not a fan of the ESPYS at all but moments like this and the Pat Summitt tribute make the show for me. They may waste a lot of time on stupid things, but they still get the point across with these awesome speeches and tributes.

Mark Munoz vs. Chris Weidman

;The question of who is next for middleweight champion Anderson Silva may be answered after Wednesday night's UFC on FUEL 4 main event. Mark Munoz clearly has the deeper resume; he's fought for the promotion for over three years, has won seven of his last eight, and is coming off an impressive TKO over Chris Leben. Chris Weidman, meanwhile, entered the UFC with the tag of promise, and has largely delivered, boasting an unbeaten record and a fast-evolving game.

Both are authentic talents within the division, yet there is no clamoring among the masses for either man as Silva's next challenge. That could change with a decisive, exciting performance on Wednesday, and that's probably what it will take to vault into that coveted spot.

It's a bit surprising that with much less experience, Weidman was installed as a slight favorite by oddsmakers, and bet up even further by gamblers.

He's coming off a UFC on FOX 2 unanimous decision win over Demian Maia. While the victory was solid if unspectacular, it showcased a few underrated aspects of his game. For example, he was able to pass Maia's guard twice, no small feat against a highly decorated submission expert

Mitt Romney BOOED at NAACP, Says Repeal Obamacare

;Mitt Romney addressed the NAACP at their 103rd National Convention in Houston Wednesday morning.

While acknowledging the historical significance of President Obama's election as the nation's first African-American president, Romney will attempt to distinguish himself in the speech as a viable alternative for black voters.

This is the second major campaign speech Romney has delivered to a minority group in the last month. In June, Romney spoke before the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials in Orlando.Wendell Anthony, president of the Detroit NAACP tells Jennifer Granholm that Mitt Romney's policies and priorities don't match up with the NAACP's. Anthony says Romney's appearance at the NAACP conference creates an "illusion of inclusion," but that ultimately Romney's past actions speak louder than his visit to the conference stage. "Let's talk about the real stuff," Anthony says, advocating for a deeper conversation into Romney's politics and policy.During his Wednesday morning speech before the NAACP Convention in Houston, Texas, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney explained that his plans include reducing government spending by eliminating "every nonessential expensive program I can find, and that includes ObamaCare." Although several other Romney policy proposals were met with applause, the health-care remark was met with significant booing.

There were no immediate details of injuries. Officials say a southbound train with two locomotives and 98 cars of mixed freight derailed between E. 11th and E. 5th avenues at about 2 a.m. ET. Chris Moyles leaves Radio 1 Breakfast Show

;The 38-year-old has been presenting the show since 2004 and will be replaced by one of the station's current specialist DJs, Nick Grimshaw.

Announcing the news, he said: "We're off. I wanted to let you know. A couple more months of us, then it's someone else's turn. Thank you for listening."

Chris Moyles is contracted at Radio 1 until New Year 2014 after signing a new two and a half year deal last July.

There's been pressure on the new Radio 1 controller Ben Cooper to make the station's audience younger.

In June, the BBC's governing body - the Trust - found that Radio 1 still needed to attract more people under 30 years old.

That followed a review in 2009 which said Radio 1 should focus on serving 15 to 29-year-olds.

Ben Cooper said: "I'd like to thank Chris. Quite simply he's been the most successful breakfast show host in Radio 1 history.

"He's done it for more than eight and half years and he's been fantastic."

UFC 148: Chad Mendes Vs. Cody McKenzie

;A key featherweight bout is up next, as Chad Mendes (11-1) takes on Ultimate Fighter alum Cody McKenzie (13-2). This will be the first fight for Mendes since falling to UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo. The referee is Steve Mazzagatti. Also of note, Strikeforce women's champion Ronda Rousey is in the corner of McKenzie.

Round 1: Mendes with some big knees to the body to start, hitting and moving right now. McKenzie nearly kicks over the head of Mendes. Mendes catches a kick and drops McKenzie. "Money" fires off several quick fists and this one is over quickly. Mendes fires the first strike to the body, as McKenzie doubles up and goes down, before jumping on top of him and finishing him off.UFC 148, former top contender Chad Mendes (11-1; 2-1 UFC) faces Cody McKenzie (13-2; 2-2 UFC). This Featherweight fight is the second of six main card fights on the UFC 148 PPV. The USA TODAY / MMA Nation Consensus MMA Rankings currently have Mendes as the #2 Featherweight in the world, with McKenzie unranked. The UFC 148 PPV card airs live Saturday night July 7 at 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT.

This is a bit of a mismatch, as the rankings indicate. Mendes has shown that he is one of the best in the world at 145 pounds, and is looking for a rebound win here. Meanwhile, McKenzie is still developing as a fighter, though he does have the proverbial "puncher's chance" here thanks to his excellent guillotine. If he can get the choke and tap out Mendes, it will be a huge upset.

Wladimir Klitschko vs. Tony Thompson, Kell Brook vs. Carson Jones Fight Recaps

;I’ll be back for Haye-Chisora night Saturday night when the whole nation will become boxing experts for a night. However if David and Dereck can reproduce half of what we saw betweeen Carson Jones and Kell Brook in Sheffield tonight, it will be a special, special night.

Honourable mentions must go to Gavin Rees for defending his European lightweight title against a brave Derry Matthews and credit to both Wladimir Klitschko and Tyson Fury for keeping their respective bandwagons rolling on. I was Cameron Sharpe and tonight was excellent. I’m off to watch Sky Sports News’ new girl Anna Woolhouse to try and erase memories of this morning’s Parkrun drama. Goodnight!

22:50- And that was that. I would apologise for the way tonight has ended but it seems pretty clear that we jumped on the right fight of the three major cards on offer across Europe. Wladimir Klitschko and Tyson Fury will watch next week’s meeting between David Haye and Dereck Chisora with interest, however Tony Thompson is surely staring retirement in the face. Four years on from the pair’s first meeting, tonight was an impressive show of Wladimir’s powers.

USA Basketball announces final roster for 2012 Olympics

;USA Basketball Men's National Team training sessions, USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo today announced the official nominees for the12-man U.S. Olympic Team men's basketball roster. The U.S. hoops roster is pending final approval by the U.S. Olympic Committee.
"We projected we would have difficulty getting down to a roster of 12, regardless of the number of injuries that have taken place, because they are such an outstanding group of people and athletes," Colangelo said. "The final selections keep us in concert with our game plan to have athleticism, versatility and strong depth on our roster. I think our final roster epitomizes all of that."

"We have benefited so much from having a pool of outstanding players who are committed, and as a result the selection is difficult. But it's the best challenge that you could have because everyone has been so committed," Krzyzewski said. "The guys who were not selected are in our pool, and if someone did get hurt, they are already part of our team and could be seamlessly woven in at a later date. We really appreciate the commitment of all of these guys." Blake Griffin, Andre Iguodala and James Harden were chosen Saturday to complete the roster for the U.S. Olympic basketball team.

They earned the final three spots that opened after a rash of injuries knocked out at least four players who would have been on the team. They beat out Eric Gordon, Rudy Gay and No. 1 draft pick Anthony Davis of New Orleans, who couldn't scrimmage this week because of a sprained ankle.

Also heading to London for the defending gold medalists are: LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, Tyson Chandler and Kevin Love.

Kyle Busch Motorsports: 2012 Subway Jalapeno 250 at Daytona preview

;Kyle Busch will wear dual hats this Friday at Daytona International Speedway as he gets back behind the wheel of the Kyle Busch Motorsports #54 Monster Energy Toyota Camry for the Nationwide Series Subway Jalapeno 250.

Busch won the Daytona Nationwide Series in July 2007, then went back to victory lane one year later in the Sprint Cup Series race. This year’s KBM Nationwide Series debut at Daytona in February was going smoothly until the last lap, when Busch went from contender to DNF; in the series’ other restrictor plate race at Talladega, Busch finished second to his former NNS ride, the #18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota with Joey Logano behind the wheel.

“When we came here in February, it was about seeing what the team had, how our equipment had been built and whether we would be competitive,” said Busch recently on the KBM website. “Although not the finish we hoped for, the February event showed us we can be there at the end and be battling for the win. That was 15 weeks ago now and we certainly have proven that we are growing and becoming stronger with each track we go to. I was close to the win at Talladega and Joey got me there at the line.”

Silva, Sonnen prepare for battle at UFC 148

;Despite Sonnen doing one of the most brilliant promotional jobs in the history of sport, there was no greater demand than usual to see UFC 117 on Aug. 7, 2010, at Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif.
Silva put his middleweight title on the line against Sonnen that night and, despite an hilarious and completely unexpected verbal war waged by Sonnen in the pre-fight build-up, it did little to change minds. The fight was expected to be a one-sided rout when it was made and, despite Sonnen's best efforts, when the bell rang that night, most still believed that Silva would squash his loud-mouthed challenger.
The perception was that they were two different calibres of fighters and that Silva's skill would easily overshadow Sonnen's bombast.
Less than a minute into the fight, though, a straight left from Sonnen nearly floored Silva. About 100 seconds into the bout, Sonnen had landed four or five significant left hands, which left the champion reeling.
Halfway through the opening round, Sonnen was on top and driving his shoulder into Silva's head, bouncing it off the mat like a basketball.

Wimbledon 2012: Serena Williams v Victoria Azarenka

;Serena Williams was relentless against Victoria Azarenka in the Wimbledon 2012 semifinals. The American blasted 24 aces in a 6-3, 7-6 (6) win, sending the four-time Wimbledon champ back to the finals where she’ll take on Agnieszka Radwanska Greetings from jolly ol' England, everyone. It's Courtney Nguyen logging in from Wimbledon to take you through the second women's semifinal between Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka.
So who will face Agnieszka Radwanska in the Wimbledon final? That's right, A-Rad made it look easy today against Angelique Kerber, in a match I thought would be much tighter. But Aga was cool as the other side of the pillow, dispatching of the German 6-3, 6-4. Impressive. Now we'll get a look at the Azarenka serve vs. Serena's return. Serena was taking HUGE cuts at Zheng Jie's serve and in the third round and she was missing quite a bit, which helped keep Zheng in the match. But she was dialed in against Kvitova on Tuesday.

Usher Brings 2012 BET Awards To A 'Climax'

;With two spotlights shining down on him, a sleeveless Usher belted out the first notes of his summer hit, "Climax," at Sunday's 2012 BET Awards.

The R&B crooner stood center stage, wearing all black, save for a pair of hot-colored shoes, and sang the ballad with the electro-beat from his seventh studio album, Looking 4 Myself, in front of a live band. Some wicked, black-and-white animation danced behind him on a large screen that backlit the auditorium.

This was the first time Usher has performed at the awards show since 2010, where he also sang another ballad, "There Goes My Baby," from his Raymond v. Raymond album.

The Sunday night (July 1) performance came in the first half-hour of the show and was apropos, considering that Usher's latest studio album is topping Billboard's charts for the second week in a row (and his fourth #1-debuting album in a row). The dance-friendly album was just released last month. "Climax" hit #17 on the singles chart, while second track "Scream" has peaked at #13.

For his BET Awards performance, the multiplatinum, multi-Grammy-winning R&B singer kept it fairly muted. Save for a few quick microphone movements, he let his vocals dance during the performance. Even his attire was muted compared to what we've seen Usher turn out at awards shows in years past; a lone, shiny timepiece decorated his wrist.

Usher concluded his performance with a quick wave of his hand to the fans down in front.
