Michael Del Zotto goal. Washington Capitals vs NY Rangers Game 7 5/12/12 NHL Hockey
;For the second time in this series the Washington Capitals rebounded from a devastating loss and came up with anoter season saving victory. After losing in three overtimes in Game 3 earlier in the series, the Capitals came out strong in Game 4 and found a way to win. After Game 5's collapse in the final seconds it was hard to see Washington rallying again, but sure enough they did. Alex Ovechkin scored on the power play just 1:28 into Game 6, and the Capitals went on to a 2-1 victory over the New York Rangers to force a seventh game on Saturday not. With a chance to close out the series and give themselves a bit of a mental and physical break before the Eastern Conference Finals, the Rangers came out and looked absolutely awful. New York looked disinterested from the get go, and after Anton Stralman's early penalty led to a quick Washington goal, the Rangers generated nothing. For the second straight game the offense was nonexistant for New York, hardly testing Capitals goaltender Braden Holtby. Jason Chimera gave Washington a 2-0 lead midway through the second period, and after that is when New York had their opportunity to get back in the game. Jeff Halpern went off on a four minute high stick penalty, but the Rangers' power play went 0-for-5 on the night. Henrik Lundqvist made 21 saves on the night and didn't really have a chance on either of the Washington goals, but in Game 7 they're going to need him to steal a hockey game. The Capitals have outplayed the Rangers at their own game for most of this series. They'll be loose and confident heading into Saturday night's contest, and their young goaltender is about as calm as someone can get under the circumstances. The first goal in Game 7 is going to be a big one, because really for the duration of the series the Rangers have had a difficult time generating much offense. The Capitals have the better playmakers up front and that could be the difference in a game like this. Both these teams advanced to the semifinals after defeating teams in a seventh game in the first round. The Rangers defeated the Senators by a goal and the Capitals took out the defending Stanley Cup Champion Bruins in overtime. On Saturday night at Madison Square Garden both teams will be looking for some more magic.
