;Football: Not even a world class goalkeeping display from David de Gea could prevent Manchester United losing their second consecutive home game in this year's Europa League as Sir Alex Ferguson's men went down to La Liga side Athletic Bilbao.
A first-half strike from Wayne Rooney was cancelled out by Fernando Llorente on the stroke of half-time.
However the away side, who were excellent throughout, refused to settle for a draw and second-half goals from Oscar de Marcos and Iker Muniain left the Old Trafford crowd stunned before Rooney scored what could be a hugely significant penalty in the dying embers of the game.
But it was de Gea, facing Spanish opposition for the first time since his £18m move from Athletico Madrid in the summer, who made a number of outstanding saves to keep the away side at bay as consistently poor defending in Europe this season left United with a mountain to climb in the return leg next week. Manchester United face an uphill battle to reach the Europa League quarter-finals after a shock first-leg defeat by a fearless Athletic Bilbao side.
Wayne Rooney smashed United ahead from close range before Fernando Llorente's header drew the visitors level.
But the cavalier Spaniards refused to settle for a draw as United failed to win yet another European home game.
