;Rajon Rondo had his second triple-double in three games, spoiling Harvard grad Jeremy Lin's return to Boston on Sunday and leading the Boston Celtics to a 115-111 overtime victory over the New York Knicks.
Rondo had 18 points, 20 assists and a career-high 17 rebounds, and Paul Pierce scored 34 – including a 3-pointer with 4.9 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime. Kevin Garnett scored 18 with 10 rebounds, and Ray Allen gave the Celtics the lead for good with a 3-pointer to make it 108-105, then followed it with a fast-break layup – both on assists from Rondo.LeBron James and Kobe Bryant had to wait. Paul Pierce ensured free Knicks vs. Celtics basketball on Sunday afternoon, scoring Boston's last seven points in regulation, including a contested three-pointer with 4.9 seconds left that tied the game at 103.
Jeremy Lin and Carmelo Anthony, quiet much of the game, came up big at the end of regulation for New York. Lin scored five points in 27 seconds to cut Boston's lead to one with 2:07 left. He finished with 14 points, but six turnovers.
In overtime, Rajon Rondo took control of the Celtics and the game, and finished with a freaking absurd line: 18 points, 20 assists, 17 rebounds. How rare is that?
Rajon Rondo had his second triple-double in three games, finishing with 18 points, 20 assists and a career-high 17 rebounds, and the Celtics ruined Harvard grad Jeremy Lin's return to Boston with a 115-111 victory over the New York Knicks on Sunday.
Rondo played a part in every Celtics point in overtime, collecting five points, five rebounds and two assists in the extra period.
As an aside, I know it is probably too late in his career to start a nickname for Rondo (and his name is unique enough to stand on its own) but wouldn't Spiderman be an interesting one? I mean, he's "amazing" right? The blank face he plays with is almost like a mask (right down to the expressionless mouth). He does things on the court that defy physics, including a fake around the back pass where the ball might as well be stuck to his huge hands (like with a web?). I don't know, maybe it sounds lame, but I think he could do worse.
